Andrew Mokete Mlangeni passed away on July 21 2020. Born on June 6 1925 Mlanngeni was a trade unionist political activist member of the ANC Youth League Member of the ANC journalist for the New Age as a member of uMkhonto weSizwe he was given military training in China and was arrested at the Lilliesleaf Farm in Rivonia on July 11 1963. He was the father of 10 children that he had with his wife Johanna Junny. He was committed to life imprisonment on 12 June 1964 and he spent 27 years on Robben Island. Upon his release he became a parliamentarian and served in the National Assembly. He was awarded the highest award from the ANC – Isithwalandwe Seaparankwe and President Nelson Mandela awarded him the Presidential Order for Meritorious Service Class 1 Gold.
