Description A young disabled boy learns to use a bow and arrow at the 78th birthday party of the President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, fondly known as Madiba. More than 2,000 children who are living with disability in disadvantaged communities across the county were invited to the day-long birthday extravaganza being held on the 17th July 1996 on the grounds of Hilton College near Pietermaritzburg in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. In advance of today's festivities, the invited children have been examined and treated by a team of orthopaedic specialists and physiotherapists. Many of them have been given life-changing wheelchairs. The event has the backing of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund. Nelson Mandela was born on the 18th July 1918 in Mvezo, a small village in the Eastern Cape.
