Description Children, some dressed in zebra costumes, perform at Nelson Mandela’s 78th birthday celebration. More than 2,000 children who are living with disability in disadvantaged communities across the county have been invited to the day-long birthday extravaganza being held on the 17th July 1996 on the grounds of Hilton College near Pietermaritzburg in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. The children, their carers, Nelson Mandela and other guests are being entertained playing games, enjoying party fare, and attending a circus performance in a big top (a first-time experience for Madiba who has, to date, never been to a circus!). The event has the backing of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.
