Description The President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, fondly known as Madiba, is delighted to be able to share his 100kg birthday cake, ablaze with 78 candles, with the children and their carers, and other invited guests at his 78th birthday celebration. More than 2,000 children who are living with disability in disadvantaged communities across the county have been invited to the day-long birthday extravaganza being held on the 17th July 1996 on the grounds of Hilton College near Pietermaritzburg in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. The event has the backing of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.
