Description A fleet of buses has transported the 2,000 or more children living with disability in disadvantaged communities around South Africa to the 78th birthday celebration of the President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela. The day-long birthday extravaganza is being held on the 17th July 1996 on the grounds of Hilton College near Pietermaritzburg in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. The children, their carers, Madiba and other guests are being entertained playing games, enjoying party fare, and attending a circus performance in a big top (a first-time experience for Madiba who has, to date, never been to a circus!). The event has the backing of the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.
