Description: Release our Leaders - Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela Nelson Mandela is known throughout the world as the leader of our people and the ANC. He has fearlessly fought oppression all his life. He was born in Umtata on July 18th in 1918; the son of a chief who grew up to serve all people. In 1944 he joined the ANC and with Sisulu and Tambo founded the Youth League. He soon became one of our dynamic leaders and led the Defiance Campaign against unjust laws in 1952. He was banned, restricted and imprisoned on m any occasions. In the early 1060's he led the ANC and Umkhonto We Sizwe from underground. With the launching of armed action, he became the first Commander-in-Chief oh Umkhonto. In August 1962, he was captured by the enemy and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. After the capture of our other leaders at Rivonia in 1963, he was charged with them, and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. His self-sacrifice, devotion and dedication to the struggle for our people's freedom remains an inspiration to us all. WE DEMAND THE RELEASE OF OUR LEADERS AND POLITICAL PRISONERS!!
